5 Mile Reef Sodwana Bay
Price: R385 Per Person
Location and General Information
Keep your eyes on the look-out for Bottlenose Dolphins, Manta Rays, Whalesharks and others! Often sighted along the way to 5 Mile Reef… Your opportunity for spotting bigger and exciting creatures is definitely greater the longer your boat ride. 5 Mile Reef lies to the north of 2 Mile, and while it is a slightly deeper topographical area and therefore home to more elusive marine species, it is also a great place to explore.
If you are an Advanced qualified diver or higher, then this diving is for you… Deeper dive sites definitely require divers with further certifications, so why not upgrade your certification level by completing your PADI Advanced Diver course with us?
The ‘Pothole’, as it is affectionately known, was the first well-known site to be dived regularly on this flattish, squarish area of reef. Often you will discover something curled up inside… maybe a moray eel, or even a Nurse Shark or White Tip on occasion. Staghorn Coral strips interspersed with long sand gullies covers the southern section. Try and spot a Dragon Moray here.
Other dive sites are now also popular; names like ‘Hotspot’, ‘Ribbon’, ‘Lettuce’ and ‘Gotham’ are favourites for divers looking for a great deep dive. Look no further for marine life that is not found elsewhere in Sodwana Bay… So try and spot a shy and seldom seen fish like the Longnose Hawkfish. These sites are definitely the spots for some unique experiences.
All our dives are priced as 2 Mile Reef dives so that a package of 5 dives can be purchased. We then simply charge the balance of the dive price as a surcharge, multiplied by the number of times you dived any of the further reefs. See under the Diving Information tab for further details. Please be aware that you are not able to pre-book dives to a particular site or for a particular time, when you make your accommodation and dive booking. Please attend the Dive Planning meeting held the night before you wish to dive, to do so. If you are unable to attend, please call in to confirm your dive preference for the next day, on +27 35-571 0290 or +27 790 712612 to request your place. Proof of certification is required.
